Overview:
The 2008 Honda Civic is offered in six models: sedan, coupe, Si sedan, Si coupe, Hybrid sedan, and natural-gas GX sedan.
All Civics have Honda's Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, which dissipates crash energy of frontal collisions and provides better compatibility in collisions with vehicles of differing sizes. Standard safety features for all Civic models are four-channel anti-lock braking system with electronic brake distribution, front occupant side air bags, two-row side-curtain air bags, active front seat head restraints, and rear seat head restraints for all positions.
The sedan and coupe have a 140-horsepower 1.8 liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine. Both these models are compliant with 50-state ULEV-II emissions regulations. The Si sedan and Si coupe are equipped with 197 horsepower 2.0 liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine mated to a close-ratio, six-speed manual transmission, and a helical-type limited-slip differential, which enhances traction in high-performance driving situations.
The substantial improvements of the Si models include 17-inch wheels and high-performance V-rated tires, unique trim panels and bolstered seats with red fabric stitching in the interior design, and a rear wing spoiler and aerodynamic cladding in the exterior design.
Civic Hybrid and Civic GX are only available as sedans. Power for the Hybrid sedan is provided by a smaller 1.3L four-cylinder engine and a 20-horsepower electric motor, both producing 110 horsepower and 123 lb-ft of torque.
Civic GX is a gas-powered car with a 113-horsepower 1.8L four-cylinder engine. This model is only available at qualified Honda dealers in California and New York, and enables owners to become eligible for federal tax credit.
Three trim levels: the economical DX, the sufficiently equipped LX, and the elegant EX and EX-L with leather seat upholstery, provide varied features for sedans and coupes (except the Hybrid and GX).
Strengths:
One of the best first-time cars. Impressive styling, safety features, reliability. Hybrid and natural gas-powered GX models present a wide range of green choices.
Changes:
The 2006 redesign made some slight alterations: more elegant and sleeker body styling, revised powertrains and other components, but Honda Civic remained rather unchanged. The new EX-L model has leather seat upholstery. The Si Sedan was refined with the Mugen package: a high-performance track-tuned suspension, a revised exhaust system, 18-inch alloy wheels, sporty body style.
Value:
Honda Civic Coupe is the perfect first car for a student. Civic has acquired a long-term reputation as a sporty, fun-to-drive and reliable automobile. At a very competitive price you can get a car with standout styling and impressive set of safety features.
